Southern Inyo Waters Open for Trout Fishing

Lakes and streams from Independence south through Lone Pine and Diaz Lake are opened to anglers looking for the first trout action of the season. The Lone Pine Chamber hosts the Early Opener Trout Derby ($5 entry fee) at Diaz Lake, with prizes for kids and adults for largest fish, largest catch and a $600 blind bogey cash prize. Sign up at 6:30 a.m. at the lake and start fishing until 3 p.m. For more information, contact the Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce, 760-876-4444, www.lonepinechamber.org.
